Department of Public Works: Simple automated backups that work

With a large and distributed staff the Department of Public Works needs a reliable and simple solution to protection data on user computers.

Background

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is mandated with the managing and development of infrastructure in South Africa while marinating good governance. As part of their strategic leadership was ensuring the complete protection of data within the department.

As a major national department there was a need to standardise processes and to automate systems as much as possible, “We procured Cibecs as a tool to assist in speeding up our office automation process,” says Kgomotso Thulare, Deputy Director Infrastructure at the Department of Public Works.

The problem

While there had been a strong focus on data protection it had always been on file server backup and protection leaving valuable and sensitive data stored on endpoint devices completely vulnerable.

Why the Department of Public Works chose Cibecs

The focus on server only protection left a gap, “we picked Cibecs as a tool to fill that gap,” says Thulare. While there are many server software solutions that offer endpoint data backup and recovery, those tools are inefficient and don’t actually have all the functionality needed for complete endpoint protection.

Since implementing Cibecs the department has experienced the inevitable stealing of laptops, “we managed to recover users data through Cibecs.”

Cibecs makes it easy for users to comply with data backup and protection policies as it automates the entire process and can be managed centrally by IT administrators.

Conclusion: Cibecs simple and fast backup and recovery

Thulare says, “The users are happy and they would like to keep using the software,” it’s a testament to how easy and stress-free the Cibecs solution is for users.
